Gesang was a renowned composer known for writing the mega hit "Bengawan Solo". Which was popular through out asia. There are versions in Mandarin, Japanese, English, etc. His works to me are the pinnacle of a certain Javanese romanticism. In the case of Bengawan Solo it is naturalistic in its romanticism. I think Gesang's best work is in Javanese however. And Pamitan is definitely one of his best songs.
Lilalono pamit mulih
I bid farewell and return
Mesti kulo yen dede jodone
It must not have meant to be
Mugo enggal antuk sulih
I hope a replacement comes soon
Wong sing biso ngladeni slirane
Someone who is capable of serving them
Pancen abot jroning ati
Indeed the heart is heavy
Ninggal ndiko wong sing tak tresnani
Leaving you, the person whom I love
Nanging bade kados pundi
But what will it be like
Yen kawulo sak dermo nglampahi
If I be humble and endure
Mung semene atur puji kario raharjo
This is all it is, my praise and well wishes
Sak pungkure ojo lali asring kirim warto
In the end I didn't forget to send this
Eman eman mbenjang ndiko
It's such a shame leaving you
Yen to nganti digawe kuciwo
If only it wasn't so dissapointing
Batin kulo mboten lilo
My spirit is unwilling
Yen to nganti mung di sio sio
If only it wasn't to waste
This is the first version I heard. Dimas Tejo's version opts for the second person sliramu as opposed to the third person slirane. He also opts to say "nadyan" instead of "pancen" in the chorus even though instead of indeed. Both of which makes the choice of words feel more modern, he is talking directly to the former flame.
